Neither rain, sleet, nor snow will keep the mailman or Santa from their appointed routes, nor did it keep a record crowd from attending St. Joseph’s annual Community Caroling in the Chapel. Nearly 200 attended the caroling and/or Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction, both of which were new this year. Much of the credit goes to an army of volunteers and sponsors who made the evening at St. Joseph’s Center for Community Service possible. |
Once again, St. Joseph’s Church in Clayton, built in 1896 as part of the St. Joseph’s Industrial School, was the scene of everyone’s favorite songs of the season led by John Clark, and of course a visit from Old Saint Nick with lots of goodies for the children who attended. Beforehand, though, a complete Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction were held in the adjacent Drexel Campus Center on the St. Joseph’s campus
Food was provided by Nino’s Pizza, Sal’s Pizza, and volunteers led by St. Joseph’s board member Sherry Eierman. Silent Auction Items were donated by The Eagle Group, Dollar General, Acme, Food Lion, Laura Nix, Dolores Cromwell, Nature’s Way, the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, and Smyrna High School.
St. Joseph’s would also like to thank its “Drexel” level sponsors: Pratt Insurance, State Farm Insurance and Rick Downes, and the Wayside Restaurant. Clark’s Christmas Tree Farm donated trees, and B and J Farms donated the sleigh wagon, hay, and decorations, while numerous organizations from Smyrna High School contributed countless hours of volunteer time for a variety of tasks. Thanks also to the Dover Post newspapers for their media support.
